Gilbert Belnap

Gilbert Belnap born in Canada after his family flied their to escape the civil war of the United States. When he came by himself to the United States in his young life to be freed from being an indentured Servant until sometime and came to know and work as a bodyguard for Joseph Smith Jr. the Prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints As he was interested in the Temple . He latter converted after two years of getting to know them. Latter in life his family and he received a calling To go to California and help settle one of the colonies. On his way there he had the scare of his life when he and the others were settled in camp on to hear some scuffling and to turn around to see a Native American with one of his baby daughters and running away with her on horse back. It took them hours to chase the kidnapper down before getting her back. It didn’t end well for the kidnapper and they continued to California with tears in their eyes and giving thanks to God that he got her back.
